‘Rights of Nature’ – Perspectives within Northern Ireland
The idea that Nature itself could have rights is gaining attention in Europe — but what does it really mean? Is it a philosophy, a legal framework, or a way to enforce protection?
Join us for a discussion on what ‘Rights of Nature’ could look like in Northern Ireland. We’ll explore questions like: Should Nature have rights? How could that work in practice? Using real-life scenarios and insights from researchers at the Climate+ Co-Centre, we’ll work together in small group discussions to understand the benefits and challenges of this idea, from local to national levels.
The session includes a short opening and closing survey to see how perspectives change, and we’ll have scribes capturing ideas on the tables. The results will be shared after the event and will contribute to a PhD project on biodiversity-related risks.
This event is part of Generation Hope, a day of inspiring workshops exploring how creativity, culture, and community can help us respond to the climate crisis.
